I like weird, supporting characters in movies. My favorite Harry Potter character is Dobby. Thing is not my favorite character in the series Wednesday but he is very interesting. It’s interesting that you can make a character from just a human hand.
I couldn’t imagine sewing Enid and Wednesday without Thing. For me, he is an inseparable companion of Wednesday. I sewed it 2 times. The first time I sewed he in the same size as the hands of other dolls. After sewing he turned out that he would be better if he was bigger. So I sewed a second one, which is about 150% of a standard hand. He also has slightly elongated fingers to make them look curved.
The Thing is sewn with a wire skeleton and is dry felted. He is painted with dry pastels and acrylic paints. When my daughter saw him for the first time, she said he was too clean. I thought that she were right, Thing walks on the ground all the time and in most scenes he was dirty. I decided to shade the Thing a little more with pastels. I like the end result very much. He can be seated on the dolls arm, which was important to me.
