Yesterday evening I sewed all the parts of the new doll together. Everyone in the house thinks she’s big. They got used to the dolls I sewed earlier. They were about 35 cm. This doll will be 56 cm tall. This is a very big difference. I have never sewed a doll this large. She has no head yet, but her body reminds me of the doll I had when I was a little girl. It was a large doll with long blonde hair. My uncle, who worked as a railwayman, brought her to me from Moscow. She was the favorite doll of my childhood. She could walk when she was led by the hand.
I am glad that I am sewing something new. Learning new things is inspiring and developing. A bit like a walk around an unfamiliar city when you don’t know what’s waiting for you around the next corner. I like this state. I am waiting for the end result a bit like a child for a surprise 😉.
A large doll is sewn a little differently than a small doll. When it comes to the precision of sewing, it is certainly easier. However, it is more difficult to fill doll with a silicone ball so that there are no unevenness. Of course, making a larger body requires more materials and more time to make. The big doll is also kind of more real. Less puppet and more human 😊. I wanted her to have joints in her arms and legs, so I put wooden balls there. I covered them with a leotard so they are not visible at first glance. There are no wire reinforcements in the arms and legs of the doll. I am curious if it will work. When sewing something for the first time, we catch what can be done better the next time. I also have a few such observations. It seems to me that I will be changing the proportions of the torso and legs. I wish the next doll was slimmer. This one has quite extensive hips and I think it could have a slightly longer torso. But this can only really be judged when I make her head.
Today the body is primed and it takes a few hours for it to dry. I hope to paint them tomorrow. Later, the most precise thing to do – sewing and modeling the head. I can’t imagine whether it will be more difficult or easier to model a larger head 😉.
The two photos show the difference in the size of this and the previous doll. On the lap of a large doll sits the torso of a smaller doll.
